Preventative care is the foundation of dentistry. Dental cleanings and thorough exams give us a chance to check your oral health on a regular basis. The American Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist regularly, the number of annual check-ups you need depends on your dental condition. For most patients we recommend every 6 months, for full cleanings, examinations, necessary xrays, and consultations for potential treatment. Considering age, past dental procedures, dental diseases and conditions, and other situations that affect your current dental health we may suggest more frequent cleanings.

Professional dental cleanings help remove built-up plaque that is not removable using conventional brushing and flossing. Often, the dentist is capable of identifying potential problems that the patient is not yet able to see or feel. When you maintain regular preventative dental appointments, you can stave off decay and gum disease, as well as identify the beginnings of oral health problems before they become severe. Your dental hygienist will provide you with oral hygiene instruction to help you maintain the most optimum dental health.

Dental examinations help us identify and diagnose a variety of dental conditions, such as cavities, oral cancer, and gum disease. Dr. Green and Dr. Esham give a full and complete exam on every patient, at every dental cleaning, every time.

We are a fully digital practice offering the highest quality x-rays possible. Digital X-rays allow us to diagnose problems faster, and with much less radiation.

Here is a sample x-ray taken from our digital panorex machine:

Scaling and root planing is a deep-cleaning, nonsurgical procedure, done under a local anesthetic, whereby plaque and calculus (hardened plaque, also called tartar) from above and below the gum line are scraped away (scaling) and rough spots on the tooth root are made smooth (planing). Smoothing the rough spots removes bacteria and provides a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth.
The accumulation of plaque bacteria is the most common cause of periodontal disease in susceptible individuals. As the accumulation adheres to the teeth and moves below the gumline, the toxins released by the bacteria become the source of constant irritation to the body, triggering a chronic inflammatory response. Probing is done to measure the depth of the periodontal pocket. Only with the help of specialized instrumentation (scaling and root planing) can the irritants be completely removed. Sometimes referred to as deep cleaning, scaling and root planing is the procedure that can physically remove plaque and calculus from all surfaces of the teeth and the pockets below the gumline.
Scaling and root planing is done if your dental hygienist and/or dentist determines that you have heavy plaque and calculus under the gums that needs to be removed from the periodontal pockets. The calculus buildup below the gumline is what allows the disease process to progress if not removed and cause bone loss (Periodontal Disease)
Scaling and root planing is sometimes followed by adjunctive therapy such as local delivery antimicrobials, systemic antibiotics, and host modulation, as needed on a case-by-case basis. Most dentists would agree that after scaling and root planing, many patients do not require any further active treatment. However, the majority of patients will require ongoing maintenance therapy to sustain health.

We are able to provide high quality crowns, veneers, and bridges. Whether it’s cosmetic veneers, putting a crown on a back tooth, or replacing missing teeth, we can provide a strong, beautiful restoration.

Dental crowns and bridges are custom-fitted tooth prosthetics that are used to replace or restore damaged or missing teeth. Crowns, also known as “caps”, are fixed over the surfaces of natural tooth structures or dental implants. Bridges are used to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and are anchored in place by the natural teeth on either side of the empty space. Both crowns and bridges are permanent, they may not be taken in and out of the mouth. Patients who choose a crown or a bridge to restore their smile achieve both the function and appearance of natural, healthy teeth.

Dental veneers – also known as laminates – are used to cosmetically enhance the appearance of one or more teeth. Veneers are very thin, porcelain or resin shells that are customized for a desirable color and shape. They are bonded to the surface of the teeth to reshape broken, misshapen or irregular teeth, as well as provide a solution for discolored teeth that do not respond to traditional whitening treatments. Patients with veneers typically achieve a natural tooth appearance that is well-tolerated by the gums and also resistant to future stains.

Dental implants are surgical-grade root devices that support permanent tooth prosthetics that are manufactured to last a lifetime. These artificial roots are anchored in the bone beneath the gums where they become fused into the jaw. (This first step of the process is performed by an oral surgeon). A crown is mounted atop the implant for a long-lasting and natural looking smile. Many patients prefer dental implants because they offer the same function as natural teeth and also help prevent bone atrophy in the jaw. Dental implants may be used to replace a single missing or damaged tooth or to restore an entire smile.

Dentures are removable tooth prosthetics designed to look and function like natural teeth. Most dentures are composed of replacement teeth attached to plastic bases that take on the appearance of the gums. They are used to compensate for one or more missing teeth, and are available as partials and complete sets of teeth. Many dental patients elect dentures for tooth replacement if they are not candidates for dental implants or are otherwise looking for a tooth replacement option that is more affordable and budget-friendly.

Endodontics (from the Greek roots endo- “inside” and odont- “tooth”) is the dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the dental pulp.

One common dental procedure under endodontics is root canals.

During root canal or endodontic treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection.
